Jelly Ferret: 6.11.25 - general update

So it has been some days and I'm slowly getting used to life without fb/insta. Considering fb was, for all it's (many many) faults, the easiest way of spamming everyone i know with the various bits of my life, this sort of sucks.

I mean, yeah the algorithm probably wasn't showing my posts to most of my friends, or when it did it was 3 days later, but I'D DONE MY BIT. I'd put my updates out there and it was up to people to find them.

This is, of course, a really crap way to stay in touch with people, outside a few regular interacters. I'd like to say I'm spending less time on my phone now, but I'm probably spending just as long messaging more people individually, and figuring out which platform to post which update on (i am trying to not act as if I'm posting for different audiences, but the fact remains that pixelfed is for photos and substack is for writing. I'm still not quite sure WHAT tumblr is for. ).

Tumblr is basically internet trinkets

The other problem is that a lot of fb people aren't all over the internet and don't want to have to sign up for more stuff/ add more apps. So I might not be getting people to join substack or tumblr, but I *think* with this you can read without having to join anything.

So, I'm gonna start doing general updates here. Apart from all of the above, I'm still hoping that strangers on other platforms will think I'm cool and interesting, but here I'm just going to include all the boring stuff only people who know me will care about.

So...things.

Today I've been listening to a bit of NIN because someone somewhere mentioned 'the fragile' in the past month and I've been meaning to relisten to it. Followed that with some Laurie Black, who I saw play at the Cluny last month.

Of course, none of this has stopped This from becoming firmly lodged in my brain. It is both a blessing and a curse.

In other news, weirdest charity shop find recently has been this set of custom top trumps cards from a stag do. They didn't have the imagination (or friends) to do the whole pack, but including Blobby was a nice touch

Just finished reading Apartment 16 by Adam Nevill on my kobo, will make a separate post about that at some point. Also I'm the middle of a biography of John Gielgud which I'm also sure I'll expand on in the future.

Neighbour has been exhausting - we are trying to work with his social worker as he's right in that awkward spot of 'seriously needs more support' and 'has capacity to make his own decisions, he's just really bad at it'. I know I'll have to be really careful if i mention anything about that here but.. latest is he's managed to sign himself up for two different 24 month tv contracts, both with extra features he can't even use, and can't even manage his money well enough to pay one of them.
